My name is Suzanne Birdwell. I am the 8th grade Guidance Counselor at Stillwater Junior High. I look forward to working with you and your student this year. I work with students before and after school, during lunch, and between classes with permission from the teacher. If you would like to make an appointment with your student, you may contact the Guidance Office at 405-533-6422. I am available for appointments from 8:30 A.M.- 4:15 P.M. Please feel free to contact me by phone or email if you have any questions regarding the Guidance Office or your student.
I have worked in the Oklahoma Public School system for the past 31 years in different capacities. For 30 years, I served as a Family and Consumer Sciences instructor, before becoming a school counselor.
After graduating from Granite High School in 1981, I attended Western Oklahoma State College, Southwestern Oklahoma State University, and Oklahoma State University where I graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor’s degree in Vocational Home Economics. I received my Masters of Education degree in School Counseling from SWOSU in 2017. Certifications I currently hold with the Oklahoma State Department of Education are in Vocational Home Economics and Counseling.
I have been married to my husband Richard for 33 years. He retired from the Department of Human Services and now works for the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission. We have two children, Cassie and Rebecca, who both graduated from Oklahoma State University. Cassie and her husband Blake are the parents to my one and only grandson Owen.
Working with my own children, as well as with students in my classes, encouraged me to become a school counselor. Applying for Oklahoma's Promise and working to build skills that will be beneficial in the future can be overwhelming, and it is my passion to help any student in his/her pursuit of further education.
